Karen Cares About You

Dear Friends and Supporters of Education:

On Tuesday February 5th, I am seeking to be elected to the Berkeley County School Board District 2 Seat. I am running for election to the School Board, because I feel that public service is a wonderful opportunity to continue giving back to this community much like the communities that helped educate me from childhood to adulthood.

I have been fortunate in my life to have been raised on a farm in Maryland where I learned family values; to have led a successful career in accounting and finance for Fortune 100 and smaller firms; to now own and operate 2 small businesses on Daniel Island with my husband; and to be the mother of a loving 11 year old in the 6th grade.

As you may know, I have volunteered my time serving two terms as the President of the Daniel Island PTA, served as Chairperson of the Daniel Island Neighborhood Association (DINA) Education Committee and currently serve on the Daniel Island School Improvement Council. 

But, I’m not done … Tough times are ahead … More difficult decisions need to be made … Every student in Berkeley County needs the opportunity for a quality education to be prepared for successful participation in our global economy.  At the same time, burdening local propery owners alone cannot solve the future funding needs for the projected growth of Berkeley County. 

Every person in Hanahan, Goose Creek, Daniel Island and the rest of Berkeley County is a part of that process. For the past three years, we have worked together with the school administration, parents, businesses and other community leaders to provide a better opportunity for our students on Daniel Island.

Look what we have accomplished:

• Developed partnerships with local businesses, and non-profit organizations.
• Worked in collaboration with school board members, district staff and community groups.
• Involved parents and the community in school processes.
• Successfully raised over $650,000 in private funding for school improvements, equipment and programs.

I look forward to working parents, businesses and community leaders throughout District 2 and Berkeley County to improve education and foster community involvement in our schools.

I have not just complained about the problems of the district, by working with you, together we have been and can be an active part of the solutions. I’m asking for your support to elect me for the Berkeley County School Board.
