DAN KINGSBURY ENDORSES KAREN SMITH FOR BERKELEY SCHOOL BOARD
Outgoing Berkeley school board member Dan Kingsbury has endorsed Karen Smith for his seat in the Feb. 5 election. Kingsbury, who resigned from the board because of a career relocation to Columbia, has decided that Karen Smith is best suited to follow in his footsteps.
In a letter explaining his endorsement of Smith instead of opponent Doug Cooper, Kingsbury mentioned her "countless volunteer hours" as president of the Daniel Island School's Parent Teacher Association and her widespread knowledge of education issues. Kingsbury called Smith a "coalition builder."
"You will find Karen Smith to be independent on a highly divisive board, one who will strive to bring consensus, but not afraid to make tough decisions," he wrote. click here to read the entire letter.
TIM CALLANAN, BERKELEY COUNTY COUNCIL, ENDORSES KAREN SMITH FOR BERKELEY SCHOOL BOARD
In my 2 years as president of the neighborhood association, there was no volunteer thatwas more dedicated than Karen Smith. Serving as the chairperson of DINA's Education Committee Karen delivered on every single one of her commitments and because of her efforts the Daniel Island PTA was formed.
While I now serve as Councilman for Berkeley County Council District 2, it has been personally gratifying to see the impact that Karen's leadership and the PTA volunteers have made on our community in bringing together a coalition of businesses, parents, teachers and civic organizations.
If I had to pinpoint one thing that has always amazed me about Karen, it is her ability to reach out to the community and recruit scores of volunteers to improve the education of our children.
I have no doubt that Karen will bring the same commitment and passion to serve the communities of Hanahan, Goose Creek, Clements Ferry Corridor and Daniel Island onthe Berkeley County School Board. She exemplifies leadership and volunteerism and has earned my support and vote.
